School mediation is a conflict resolution strategy that promotes dialogue and peaceful coexistence in schools. In Benalmádena, thanks to a grant managed by the AMPA through the Junta de Andalucía, and with the collaboration of the school and the EOE of Torremolinos, an ambitious school mediators project has been launched.
The main goal of this program is to create a network of mediators within the school, made up of students, teachers and families, to improve coexistence and promote a culture of respect and peace.
This innovative project has not only been implemented in our school, but has also sparked the interest of other schools in Benalmádena and Torremolinos, which have joined the initiative to work together and strengthen the mediation network.
In our school, we have already started training mediators and applying the first mediation tasks. This project involves the entire educational community:
Students: The mediators are volunteer students from 4th, 5th and 6th grade of Primary, who receive training in mediation techniques to help their classmates resolve conflicts.
Teachers: **They receive training to guide and support the mediation process.
Families: They are informed and trained to reinforce at home the importance of school mediation.
The student mediator facilitates dialogue between the parties in conflict, making sure that both sides can express their points of view and reach a peaceful and agreed solution. It is important to highlight that:
The mediators are not judges and do not take sides.
The whole process is voluntary and confidential.
Only in the case of serious conflicts is the help of an adult sought.
The support of families is essential to guarantee the success of school mediation at Mariana Pineda. As parents, it is key to reinforce at home the peaceful resolution of conflicts and motivate children to use this mediation service.
